Helping Farmers Build Stronger, Smarter, & Way More Sustainable Businesses
Farm Business Mentoring
Strengthen the business side of your farm
Running a farm is unlike running almost any other business. The business, land, livelihood, family, history and legacy are often inseparable.
I work with farm business owners to help them see their business more clearly, consider more options, make better decisions and take practical action.
I won’t tell you how to subdivide a paddock or when to sell your lambs. My role is to bring a different commercial and financial perspective to the decisions that shape your farm business.

Why work with me?
I’ve coached and mentored almost 300 small businesses across a wide range of industries. My private coaching practice was built through working directly with Australian farming businesses and families.
I’ve helped farmers think through financial management, investment decisions, risk, succession, growth, diversification, financing and grant applications, subdivisions and land acquisitions and other decisions that shape the future of their farm.
My background includes establishing the Agricultural Commodities trading desk at Macquarie Bank, along with experience as a business founder, CEO, Chief Financial Officer, investment manager and investor.
I also invest in Australian farm production opportunities through the Invest Inya Farmer Cooperative. This gives me direct exposure to what is in effect a lot like sharefarminig and adds to my practical understanding of agricultural cash flow, production risk and alternative funding structures.
I understand that a decision about land, debt, succession or growth never exists only on a spreadsheet. It can also affect family, identity, lifestyle and legacy.

Farmstay & Agritourism
Is there another business inside your farm?
Farmstays and agritourism can create another income stream, make better use of existing assets and allow visitors to experience the landscape, produce and story behind a farm.
They can also consume a great deal of money, time and attention if the opportunity has not been properly assessed.
I can help you explore:
Whether there is genuine customer demand
What experience you could offer
Who your ideal guests would be
Pricing, costs and commercial viability
Branding, marketing and booking channels
How the new activity would fit alongside the existing farm business
The practical demands placed on you and your family
The objective is not to persuade you to establish a farmstay. It is to help you examine the opportunity clearly and decide whether it is right for your farm.
Sometimes the answer will be yes. Sometimes it will be no. The value is in making a sound decision before committing significant money and having a clear picture of what will be involved.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Farm business coaching is where my private coaching practice began.
Since then, I’ve worked with Australian farming families across a range of enterprises, land uses, scales of operation and business issues.
Earlier in my career, I established Macquarie Bank’s agricultural commodities trading desk - trading wool.
I don’t pretend to know your farm better than you do. You bring the knowledge of your land and farming operation. I bring commercial and financial experience, an outside perspective and the questions that help you use everything you know to make better decisions.
-
I’ve worked on government loan applications (and bank financing applications) with most of my farming clients.

Not necessarily. A local coach may bring useful knowledge of the region, but for most farm business decisions, the more important considerations are relevant experience, commercial and financial perspective, and whether the coach is a good fit for you.
Working with someone outside your region can also be an advantage. I arrive without local assumptions or existing relationships and can ask questions that people close to the business may no longer ask.
Sessions are held by videocall at a mutually convenient time, so I can work with farm businesses anywhere in Australia.

No.
One Focused Hour is just that. There is no obligation to commit to ongoing coaching.
If you want to arrange ongoing coaching following our first session, that can be organised and a reduced session rate may be available.

Our business coaching session will focus on you and your business, so we can work on whatever matters most to you.
It might be a challenge, an opportunity, a decision you keep turning over in your head or simply not knowing what to focus on next.
We can work on funding, budgeting, technology and AI, financial management, investment decisions, income diversification, sustainability, or succession planning. The session is shaped around the issue you bring and what you want to do next.
Whether it’s
